HTML clipboardArmenian mobile network operator, VivaCell-MTS is to build its own fiber-optic backbone network, and had rented capacity on the existing network built by GNC-Alfa laid between Yerevan and Armenian-Iranian border. GNC-Alfa will provide operation and maintenance of the acquired fibers.

U.S. Cellular has launched an "Overage Protection" service that sends a free text message when subscribers have used 75 percent of their monthly allowance of minutes or text messages, and another when they have used up their entire allowance.

Vodafone Portugal has launched a Christmas promotion. The amount that its personal customers spend in December on calls to the Vodafone mobile network will be returned to them in January, multiplied ten times, subject to some conditions.

USA based Verizon Wireless has added a new rugged handset, the Casio G'zOne (pronounced Jeez_wun) Rock handset to its portfolio.

China Mobile says that it added a shade under 5.1 million net new subscribers in October bringing its total base to 513.47 million customers. The mobile network operator has added 56.216 million customers so far this year.
