Foursquare Social Network Available on Vodafone Phones
Vodafone has established a partnership with Foursquare, one of the fastest growing social networks in the world, to offer its customers access to Foursquare on their mobile phones. Starting today, Vodafone customers can access Foursquare's mobile site on their mobile phones via Vodafone's mobile portal (My Portal or Vodafone live!).
Foursquare will shortly also be available via Vodafone's Apps 360 store.
"We're extremely excited about expanding our relationship with Vodafone, and we look forward to finding more ways to partner with them" said Dennis Crowley, Founder and CEO of Foursquare.
The agreement covers: Ireland, Portugal, Romania, Egypt & Turkey.
Foursquare is a social network which encourages users to share information with each other about their favourite places, based on their location, and has been regarded as something of a phenomenon in the last year, registering around 15,000 new users a day and recording over a million daily 'check-ins'.
Foursquare users can create new places of interest and add comments to places that are already created, and receive points and cups for their performance. The more 'check-ins' users accumulate, the greater the chance of becoming the 'mayor' of the place. The Foursquare also has an honour board, so users can compete with their friends.
Users can synch Foursquare with Twitter and Facebook to post location-based updates on their profiles and opt-in to receive real-time updates to keep abreast of what their Foursquare friends are up to.
The cost of using Foursquare (mobile site and apps) is based on the individual Vodafone customer's Internet access tariff.
Updated 15:12 to note this agreement covers multiple countries.
