Entire Board of Cypriot Telecom Network Resigns
The entire board of directors at the Cyprus based telecoms network operator, Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CyTA) has resigned following a series of allegations of irregularities regarding the sale of phone cards and double dealings in the bidding for a digital platform.
Chairman Stathis Kittis told the local Cyprus Mail of a "war" being waged against the semi-government organisation (SGO), adding that the resignation of the board was decided to help the President deal with the situation. Government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou confirmed that all the resignations had been accepted by the Ppresident, who will appoint a new board shortly.
The company was recently rocked by allegations that a former board member, Giorgos Constandinou, had sold pre-paid phone cards worth some EUR300,000 for cash without authorisation. After being forced to resign, Constandinou in turn claimed that the Chairman, Stathis Kittis was involved in alleged double dealing in an auction for the second digital platform being offered by the state.
