Thailand Edges Closer to Mobile Number Portability Launch
Thailand's three private mobile networks, AIS, DTAC, True Move and the two state-owned operators, CAT and TOT have jointly set up an independent firm to mange the database for the forthcoming Mobile Number Portability service.
Each operator will own a 20% stake in the new company, Clearing House for Number Portability.
The regulator is expected to mandate the launch of MNP in August, just before a 3G license auction which is due the following month. However, the operators have been pushing for the launch deadline to be moved to the end of the year saying that the setting up of the MNP clearing house was taking longer than originally expected.
